How to change URL structure?
Why shorter? Why not just use the SEO value wisely?
Because GOOGLE gives more value to the URL that is located at the LEFT and less to the end of the RIGHT. Also after a certain lenght it totally ignores it. So the most important for SEO must be at the left, so a SHORTER url is always best.
Short URLs is one of those misconceptions that came about around 2012, and now its treated like some urban legend. This isn’t a direct problem with Google or Bing ~ the search engines can process long URLs without much trouble. The issue, instead, lies with usability and user experience. Shorter URLs are easier to parse, to copy and paste, to share on social media, and to embed, and while these might all add up to only a fractional improvement in sharing or amplification, every tweet, like, share, pin, email, and link matters (either directly or, often, indirectly). So the answer is ~ make it shorter and less readable at your peril.
Urban Legend or not, we never know, since nobody knows what google wants and computes. And you speak as you know the absolute truth about it.
I have been doing and learning how to SEO since 1989.
So although I know I don’t know everything, I do know something.
And one thing I do know is that Google no longer puts a limit on the number of characters in your SERP title. Rather, it limits the title based on the pixel width. So go figure.
You can remove one “level” by disabling the Base page slug before question permalink
