Too many comment fields…

This is not a bug, this is a usability problem. In our testing we are discovering quickly that we are submitting comments in the ANSWER field which is open by default on all questions.

When I first started posting to this Q&A I was doing the same thing, and still do. I automatically scroll to the bottom of the page to add my comment not realizing I’m submitting an answer. Part of the problem is that on NEW questions the ANSWER field is usually visible on the page, and clicking the comment link scrolls the page down and because the ANSWER field has tools on it we are automatically gravitated to that field and add our comments there.

If I click on the comment link on a page with 7 answers then I can have at least 8 comment fields visible รขโ‚ฌโ€ there should never be more than 1 visible field.

It would be nice to have a pref setting that does not show the ANSWER field by default.

You know in 2.0 you can hide all comments by default:

Shot of option, Options->Layout

I don’t think we are talking about the same thing.

First, the checkbox you are referring too does nothing on my end. On or Off I don’t see any difference when I view a question.

The problem I’m having is very different. In the screenshot I placed above it is cut off but there are 13 answers provided. If I click on the comment link for each one I will have 13 comment fields open (ok, no one should do this but if I click the wrong comment link then click on *another* comment link I should only see 1 open field. Right now I see 13 (at a minimum I see 3).

I should make some videos… ๐Ÿ™‚

And here is an example. In the image below we have a beautiful bright green ANSWER button which should *open* the ANSWER field if I click it. But instead the ANSWER field is already open and looks like it is nested under the question making us think we are adding a comment to the initial question.

Sorry if I am submitting too many issues. ๐Ÿ˜›
