I just updated Anspress, Categories for Anspress and Tags for Anspress through the plugin page and now all Q&A pages on my site show the shortcode rather than content.

Please check if that page is selected as base page.
Try updating AnsPress option once.

although anspress shortcode will work everywhere, even in home page. shortcode will not work only if plugin is not active.

Yeah weird it must have deactivated. Only other change is now there is a sidebar on my main question page that I can’t seem to change through my theme.

Just remove all widget from ap-sidebar and it will be vanished.
