Comment spam since I use AnsPress

For some time, I have a lot of comment spam on my site and I did not know why. Because I use Akismet and have safe settings.

My discussion settings are the following:

E-mail me whenever
[YES] Anyone posts a comment
[YES] A comment is held for moderation

Before a comment appears
[YES] Before a comment appears Comment must be manually approved
[YES] Comment author must have a previously approved comment

However, all comments will be published without my moderation or an E-mail to me.

And now I have noticed that it is related to the use of AnsPress plugin.

When I disable the AnsPress plugin, then the comments must be moderated again and I get an E-mail.

And the user gets the notice “Your comment is awaiting moderation.”

But is the plugin enabled, comments are simply published.

If it helps, here is a history of such an comment:

1 day ago (Fri 28 Nov 2014 @ 01:34:11 am GMT) – Comment status was changed to 1
1 day ago (Fri 28 Nov 2014 @ 01:34:11 am GMT) – Akismet caught this comment as spam

And I am using AnsPress 1.4.1

Has anybody the same problem?

Best regards
Manuel

Proof on this forum : โ€œviagra cock dick poker pornโ€. See ? Posted it like a charm. And Iโ€™m sure you are using measures to prevent this, so it does concern you as well you seeย

Please remove such a link from this support area. Thanks.

Done, but you got my point ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello, I want to let you know that all AnsPress comments wents through akismet check, just like post comments. Please make sure you have installed Akismet and enabled it.

Ok thanks for the feedback @Rahul. Yet I guess you could improve the security on Anspress forums (see comment above) ๐Ÿ˜›

No need to improve anything in that area. Anspress custom posts filtering relies on WordPress and other plugins.

Anspress is as good in that area as your whole WordPress.

Same, I tried registering on my own website and posted an answer there, with “bad words”, and it got validated like a charm (it is set up on auto validation and to be honest I cannot afford to moderate all the publications before publication since there are too many).

I use Akismet and WP-SHIELD, which normally filter spam out properly, but in this case, they don’t.

Anspress is using a custom post type, so that cannot be the explanation, right ? Thanks for your timeย  ๐Ÿ™‚

What are we talking about here ? COMMENTS or Questions and Answers ? And SPAM where ? In Worpress posts and comments or in Anspress ? From Registered users or anonymous ?

I wrote “answer” so it means “answer”, and answer only (not comments nor questions then ๐Ÿ˜‰ I haven’t tested with comments to be honest as they are not enabled on my website, and haven’t either for questions as I will moderate them before publication ๐Ÿ™‚

Well i know what you wrote BUT the Topic was about Comments, so i had to ask so i can test it and see if it works right or not.

I don’t see anything wrong here. I don’t use Akismet so i can’t comment about it and also SHIELD plugin doesn’t offer that kind of spam protection (filtering).

Anspress posts behave the same as blog posts. I don’t see anything wrong.

BUT the original posted didn’t talk about all that. He wrote about COMMENTS.

Ok my bad then, I should have opened a new topic for that.

Are you using Disqus plugin?

No, just the normal WordPress comment system.

No additional plugin for comments.

I will check the issue and add the fix ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Rahul,

no comment on this issue?

For me it seems that AnsPress overrides the basic WordPress discussion settings and that’s why I get comment spam in normal blog posts. Or is it just a misconfiguration in my setup?

If it is an AnsPress issue, can we expect a bugfix for that?

I would be glad to hear from you.

Manuel
