Anspress VS other QA Plugins
Now I am starting to use a answer for something that more kind of a comment, simply for the reason that comments do not allow formatting.
Thats A great question I would love some really objective comparison as I never used another Q2A Plugin and was kind of lured in by the “Best and most complete Q&A Solution for WP” or something like that. I am not saying it is not but I never used another plugin that compares so I really don’t know. But at the time I did some basic research I think and found nothing that was able to catch my interest.
Honestly right now judging by how this forum is run, how long issues remain unresolved, how small the user base and the community actually is. I am not sure of I regret the decision moving to Anspress.
I tell you why I switched from question2ansewer to this.
- Inventor and main dev is gone from the project.
- I like Anspress as a WP plugin more because I am a WP dev myself and like it to be tightly integrated within WP rather then just using the user DB as Q2A does.
- I had a very great feeling and this seemed heavily maintained. Now that I am sitting on annoying bugs that do not get solved for weeks after being told there will be a “patch tomorrow” really tastes bad. Anyway my entire mood may change when the next patch comes out 😉
Q2A is a huge software with modern coding techniques and not just only lagacy code like wordpress. It has more features and can be seen as a more complete solution. There are still things that are unfinished, like the WP integration could be better … I kind of like it a bit more minimalistic so I do not mind losing some functionality. I just run it as a one man show support site. If you run a large community its a entire different story and I think then you should probably use a standalone solution.
I did choose Q2AÂ because it is written in PHP and seemed great, I still like it, thought about writing CSS for it to make it look like my site, integrating bootstrap … Was a to late undertaking and not as easy as one may think. Then I saw Anspress and it was right there in my site and I made the switch.
Otherwise I would maybe picks some Python bases software. The biggest ones are listed here.
I think it depends on what you do but of you want the best Q2A site possible with a huge feature set then the standalone solutions are better I guess.
We can’t. Install them and try them for yourself.
Still, not a polite Question.
I have only tried for a long time DWQA (1,5 years ago). The interface is cleaner than Anspress and more easy to navigate. The DWQA plugin is a lot faster due to internal caching. But that’s it.
It is TOTALLY unsupported and full of security holes. Imagine that users were able to EDIT other’s Qs & As !!!
Also the fixes (if any) are EXTREMELY slow (months).
Anspress is the way to go, period. Again, i’m not affilated with Anspress in any way, i’m just a user.
Also i’m glad to say that Rahul LISTENED to me (and others) and actually implemented a couple of requests of mine (like the editing a Q/A timeout period).
Did i have problems with Anspress ? Yes, sure, huge ones. But with time and kindly pushing here, most of them are resolved.
Not a polite Question? Bullocks! Someone could point out the benefits of AnsPress and make a advertisement out of this.
Thanks for the answer. But @Cagliostro can you tell your own views. 🙂
