W3 Total Cache and Anspress

I have read here and at WordPress support forum that Anspress works right with W3TC (W3 Total Cache for WordPress).

I highly dislike this plugin, it is unsupported and hasn’t been updated from 2014 until today (despite it says it has been updated, it hasn’t. Updating a Readme file is not an update).

But since Rahul said it works with Anspress, i installed it and spend a few hours with it. And i don’t see how it works in PAGE caching mode. I don’t care about the other caching it provides (object and database) since it destroys the server totally.

The main base page with the Questions is not updated. New answers and comments don’t seem to trigger an page update.

Is anybody else using W3TC with Anspress that can help with his setup ?

Thanks

So i guess Rahul is NOT using Page caching but only Object and Database caching.
Those two options are not designed for everyone. And definitely not for every
hosting plan. Shared hosting plans are not for those types of caching.

So i guess W3TC does NOT work with Anspress. And this is NOT the type of caching we are talking about.

Hi @Cagliostro!
My host provider installed and set up W3TC for me (to let me use their Amazon cdn service) and I didn’t see any conflict with Anspress. It’s a bit late for me here but I can check tomorrow what the settings are. Is there any particular setting you want me to check?

Hi Fred. I’m not talking about any conflicts. No conflicts. But W3TC PAGE caching (for Question base page for example and each Question page with answers and comments) doesn’t get refreshed at all.

I’m actually talking about a simple PAGE caching. No cdn etc etc.

The cdn mention was just the reason why I have W3TC installed. 😉 Nevertheless, my main base page get refreshed well (or so does it seem). But I’m generally logged in and the “Don’t cache pages for logged in users” option is selected. Even when non-logged in, I never noticed any problem though… I don’t know much about this kind of plugin but if you want to know how it’s setup on my site, I can always share. 😉

@Fred:

Do you use PAGE caching ? If you do, your ANSPRESS base page gets refreshed immediately when a NEW question is posted ?

Are you sure ?

Hi Cagliostro!

Here are my settings for W3TC. Not sure if this is relevant and/or will be helpful though.

In Performance > General Settings > Page Cache is checked as “Enable” | Page cache method “Disk: Enhanced”

In Performance > Page Cache > General > Only Cache posts page – Cache feeds – Don’t cache pages for logged in users are checked.

What do you think? Should I detail more settings or is it not relevant?

Thanks. You do use Page caching from what i see. Still are you sure your pages with Anspress update properly and immediately ? Also what is your cleanup (garbage) settings ? If it is default 3600 then your cache is cleared every 6 minutes.

Yep, garbage setting is default.
I just did another test: created a new question with my regular account. I then accessed my main page with 2 other browsers without being logged in as a “normal” visitor would do and the new question was displayed correctly.

Well this seems strange to me (i mean working to your website). Because no plugin (BBpress for example) works with any caching plugin without build in support. I mean how Anspress notifies W3TC to refresh the cache ?

I know what you mean cause I had this kind of issue with BBpress before. But I am as clueless as you are and can only give you my settings. m-_-m

Fred l thank you for your time to help me. Appreciated.

No worries, I know how frustrating this kind of issue can be! T_T Don’t hesitate to tell me if you need to know anything else about my conf. 😉

I am using same setting as @Fred, Page cache cannot be used in AnsPress. But object and DB cache solve this issue.

This is what i thought also. But that kind of caching is not an option for the majority of people running Anspress in shared and low end VPS.

Also disabling Page caching will affect also the rest of the WordPress site. So actually Anspress doesn’t have support for any standard caching.

thank you for sharing the configuration
