Ok, I’m the idiot who actually searches the questions & tries to read as many docs as possible. Surely it’s right under my nose and I’m missing it. So, what in the world am I missing?

After updating to WordPress ver 4.9.7, which contains an update to TinyMCE (ver 4.7.11), whenever I click inside the answer editor (on the front end), the toolbar disappears. This is happening in multiple browsers on multiple computers and with users with different roles.
The first image is how the answer editor looks when the page is loaded. The second image is after I click inside the “Write your answer…” area.
In my troubleshooting attempts, I noticed
<div id=”answer-form-c” class=”ap-minimal-editor”>
gets changed to
<div id=”answer-form-c” class=””>
after clicking inside the answer area. When I manually add the class back using my browser’s developer tools the buttons reappear. I cannot find any CSS styles assigned to ap-minimal-editor nor can I figure out what gets run when I click inside the answer area.

Has anyone else run into this issue or know how to resolve it?

Not able to upload image. When clicking on upload and insert button, the ajax request found failed and upload button loader continuously loading. This is working when I tried it on local instance. But not working on live site.

Yes, I need to dig through the code, & perhaps this is a customization, but let’s see:
Initially, a person would be on this page for example: https://anspress.io/questions/categories/core/ So, that would be accomplished via this shortcode, right? [anspress categories=”fix-woocommerce-speed”]
or
[anspress categories=”paypal-payments”]
or
[anspress categories=”stripe-payments”]
Do those shortcodes look correct?
Then here’s the next behavior after they actually arrive on any of those (category) pages, they would click the ‘Ask Question’ button. (just like here)
