As a followup: We solved this by just using some JS to manually remove the category from the dropdown on the Ask page. Not the best solution, but it works.

Looks like if a user asks a private question, it still shows up on that user's profile under their reputation visible to non-admins/mods. Any way to get this hidden?

As a side note, it looks like the reputation area will still show questions that have been deleted as well.
